LinkedIn Headline Hack: Why Listing Every Job Title Won't Help You (and What Will)
It really is π»πΌπ helpful to have a headline where you list every job title you'd be open to: Accounting | Bookkeeping | Marketing | Operations | Butcher | Baker | Candlestick Maker π Want to know why? π
I get it. You do a lot. And I really believe we all have many skills and strengths.
Walt Whitman said 'I am large, I contain multitudes.' And you do.
But your LinkedIn profile cannot.
Why?
The highest and best use of your profile isn't a catchall for recruiters.
Even if a recruiter stumbles on your profile with a headline like this, if you have too many areas of expertise or titles listed, they will be confused about you and your goals.
They will select interviewees who are more clearly focused on the role that they're hiring for.
And so instead of getting πΊπΌπΏπ² interviews with a headline like the above, you may get π»πΌπ»π².
I help 90% of my clients to identify and focus on one goal area. The other 10% focus on two at most.
Even at the executive level, you have choices about where you go next.
But, the more you hone your LinkedIn profile towards your highest and best options, the more profile views you will get for those roles.
And the point is to get recruited for the roles you want, right?
So think about where you'd really like to go next - a maximum of 2 areas or roles - and point everything in your profile towards those roles.
If you don't get hits within a month or so, don't be afraid to change it up.
And, you don't have to give up those other skills and interests.
Candlestick making would be a great teambuilding exercise in your new role π
