Redefining Worth: Empowering Executive Women to Break the Pitching Mold

The client I'm working with this week is an executive who is pitching herself too low. I see this all the time. Women, why do we do this? How can we see that we're doing it, and how can we stop?

💠 Reflection on your current role is key.

Not on your job description, but what you're actually doing day-to-day.

âž¡ Make a list of your current projects, who reports to you, what you're responsible for (work, teams, budgets) and the impact of that work on the company.

💠 Once you see what you're doing (and hopefully what you're capable of):

âž¡ Seek out roles or people on LinkedIn who are one level higher than you.
Check out the description/their profile. Doesn't seem close enough to what you do? You're already at that level? Move up another level.

âž¡ Look at other companies and industries to see what pivoting would be like - how are those roles different? How are they the same? Informational interviews (ie networking) might be helpful here.

💠On your résumé - and with regard to how you talk about yourself, especially when networking -

âž¡ Define and communicate the scope and scale of your role. Relate your work to the org's wins.

It seems simple, but it's so important.

And, guess what? This doesn't mean that people at bigger orgs win.

It means that people with big impact win.

And a huge part of whether you move up or on, whether we like it or not, is how you define and communicate your impact.

Start with the reflection on your current role and see if that helps!

If not? I'm here!
