How to Recognize and Communicate Your Executive Value

So many of the clients I work with, and especially women, women of color, and older women, face undervaluation and misrepresentation at work. 📉

But I have a specific, unique process that can help you see your own value and communicate it.

How do I know I can do this? About 15% of my clients end up getting promoted rather than seeking out an external role after working with me, and I wanted to share a bit of how and why today.

Here's part of my process:

➡ What does your company DO?: What is your company's ultimate goal or mission? Is it revenue? Shareholder value? Impact (nonprofits)? Innovation? (Hint: revenue is always a part of it or the company wouldn't exist - so be sure to understand how you impact revenue + another goal).

➡ Reflect on Key Contributions: Take time to reflect on your key contributions and achievements throughout your career. How does it impact the goal? It doesn't matter if there are 7 steps between your work and the goal - it's still impact. Consider projects you've led, initiatives you've championed, and positive changes you've influenced within your organization.

➡ Quantify Where Possible: While you may not have traditional KPIs or metrics readily available, look for opportunities to quantify your impact with the scope of projects you've managed, the size of teams you've led, or the budget responsibilities you've handled.

➡Focus on Results & Outcomes: Instead of relying solely on data, focus on the outcomes of your efforts. Highlight how your contributions have positively impacted the organization, whether it's through increased efficiency, improved processes, cost savings, or revenue generation.

➡Collect Feedback and Testimonials: Reach out to colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders for feedback and testimonials regarding your work. Ask for specific examples or anecdotes that highlight your strengths, leadership abilities, and impact on the organization.

➡Tell Compelling Stories: Use storytelling techniques to effectively communicate your impact on your resume and LinkedIn profile. Craft concise, compelling narratives that showcase your contributions, challenges overcome, and the value you've brought to your organization as a whole. Absolutely use ChatGPT for help, then put it more in your own personal writing style.
