Maximizing LinkedIn Premium for Success in Your Job Search

LinkedIn Premium is worth it during the job search. Here are some of the features and how to make the most of them. (You're welcome, LinkedIn 😉)


✔ Know who's viewed your profile (I am nosy and love seeing this all the time; I see you, fellow Mustangs from MPHS.)
🎯 Reach out to people who've viewed your profile and request to connect - you don't need to mention that they've viewed your profile. If it's a recruiter or someone you'd like to network with, ask if they'd like to chat on a 15-minute call (it's great to have a Calendly link for them to schedule directly).

✔ See data on who has applied to jobs you're interested in. Insider Info: LinkedIn recently updated the 'skills' info related to job applications (so it's no longer only telling you the skills of other people who applied, which was very confusing). Now it separates skills listed in the job description and how they compare with yours, as well as giving info on other applicants' skills. You also see info on what degrees people have who have applied - but don't let that deter you from applying.
🎯Have 800 people applied to the job you're interested in? Either skip that one OR, if it's your dream role, absolutely make sure you find someone to connect with at the company and get eyes on your resume. Only 5? Get that application in quickly.

✔ Send InMail. InMail is great because you can send a message to someone you're not connected to.
🎯 When you apply to a role you're excited about, or have secured an interview, message a few people to learn more about the role and the company. You can also use InMail to reach out to recruiters (be aware, their inboxes are full) and to connect to people outside your network.

✔ See more people on LinkedIn. You can see more profiles with a Premium account.
🎯Check out the people working for the company you've applied for, in the department and/or at the level you applied. How long have they been there? Where were they before? What do they share on LinkedIn? All great data to help you understand more about the company.
