Success Story: Executive Client Lands Interview for Dream Role through Strategic Outreach

Great news about a client securing an interview for an executive role we thought might have been filled. It's just another example of why it's so important to focus your job search on the roles and companies that are most interesting to you, and put more effort into fewer applications.

We completed the resume, LinkedIn profile, and cover letter, and this client chose my 'All In' package that includes job search strategy help, additional tweaks of resumes and cover letters for other roles, and email support along the way. It's the way my clients move on the quickest - some in as little as 4 weeks.

She identified an executive role she wanted to tweak the resume for, but because the role had been posted for some time, I wanted to be sure it was still open. I reached out via email and LinkedIn to the President/CEO and another executive (I wasn't able to identify the HR person right off the bat - and with executive roles it's okay to reach out to another executive about it - they're on the same team).

I immediately got an answer back via LinkedIn that they were interviewing for the role but open to seeing the resume for my client, who I mentioned had 20 years in the field at similar organizations. The client could also have done this but I wanted to move quickly and honestly I love providing an incredibly high level of service. A short, polite message is best when reaching out to busy people - and remember everyone is busy.

I got back to my client, we tweaked the resume for the role, created a great intro email, and she was invited for an interview at the end of the week.

I hope this illustrates how much it pays to reach out about higher-level roles, to make sure a role is still open before you put your time and energy into applying, and how kind and open people can be when you reach out. If you don't get a response, move on. That's not the kind of place you want to be.
