The Unspoken Struggle of Workplace Temperatures

Is this you? This is definitely me. Add this to the list of reasons women don't want to go back to the office - we were freezing. 🥶🥶🥶

I'm self-employed and recently got an office space - it made sense for a short time - and the very first day I was absolutely freezing.

I was reminded of something my mom told me when I was 10 years old and I visited her office for the first time in the summer:

"Bring a cardigan every day. The office temperature is set for men in suits."

Of all the pro-women, feminist messages I got from my mom growing up (she's a huge part of why I knew I could be successful working for myself) that one message really stayed with me.

Is the office temperature the biggest deal? No. Is it one more way that women in particular don't set the tone at the office? Yes.

If you're rolling your eyes, 🙄, I get it, but hear me out on my anecdotal evidence (in addition to the article):

✔️My mom was actually 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 until the 1990s in her office. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟬𝙨. Skirts are not known for being warm.

✔️At my last office job, we all (women I mean) had 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 heaters in our offices. Even when I was 9 months pregnant and ginormous in May, I was cold.

Here's to working from home and controlling the temperature (or at least, only arguing with your spouse about it.) 😉
