Strategic Job Search Tips for Mid-Career Executives: How to Land Your Next Role
While I never like to scare people about the job search 😱 , even around Halloween 🎃, it's a great time to make a big push if you want to move on before 2025.
➡️ What are the best ways to get in front of the employers, recruiters, and hiring managers for the roles you want?
You've got to take a strategic approach, especially if you are mid-career or beyond. Please don't🙅♀️apply to 50 roles a week. (I've seen this advice on Threads, yikes.)
💫 My last 2 job search strategy clients moved on to new jobs within 4 weeks. Here's a bit of how I partnered with them to help:
1. We were very focused - we tweaked a few resumes and cover letters a week for the same kinds of roles in the same industries at the same level. We focused our effort and energy and went deeper rather than broader.
2. We identified family, friends, colleagues, ex-bosses, and external partners who would be champions and identify a) people to talk to who could be helpful in the search b) people at the desired companies and connections to them and c) built a network that will pay dividends for the rest of the career.
3. We followed up on applications. We didn't just drop applications in and then hang back and wait. We followed up on applications with recruiters and hiring managers. We asked about the timeline for the search. We reiterated our interest and built the case proactively.
4. We showed up on LinkedIn, in our area of expertise. Authentic, engaging storytelling posts bring profile views and grow the network to open up opportunities. Comments in the RIGHT places can significantly increase your views from the RIGHT connections/hiring managers/recruiters/CEOs etc.
If the job search has been tough this year, I'd love to help you focus down and be strategic so that you can spend less time getting better results.
I only have a couple of spots left for job search execs this year.
