Best Advice for Starting a New Job or Experience: Be Your Best Self
What's the best advice you've gotten when starting a new job?
The best advice I ever got about starting a new *anything* was something my mom told me before I went to overnight camp for the first time, at age 11.
I was nervous because I didn't know anyone, and many kids were going with friends.
She said, "Anna Kate, because people don't know you, that means you can be whatever version of YOU, you want to be."
I carried that advice with me and decided to be the kindest version of myself I could be. I was super helpful and considerate all week, and I ended up winning the 'Cabin Honor Camper' award. 🏆
Each time I've started something new, I've remembered that advice. And I haven't always led with kindness. Sometimes I've tried to be the funny one, or the great listener, or the person who helps make connections. And sometimes it's gone over well and sometimes it hasn't.
But I love the idea that in new spaces, we can be different versions of ourselves.
