5 Ways to Stand Out for Director-Level Roles in a Competitive Job Market

I was so glad to hear that one of my job search clients is in the running for 4 Director-level roles. 👏 Here's what made the difference for her:

✔ Being open to other roles at the same company. Even at the Director level, at a large company there are a number of roles you might fill. When one role didn't work out, she was contacted about another similar role at the same company, and is now in the interview process.

✔ Having her ducks in a row on what she brings to the table. You've got to be able to concisely describe your strengths and how you lead at this level. If you can't describe your leadership style, find a coach, mentor, or colleague who will help you get there.

✔Developing an understanding early-on of the hurdles the company and vertical is facing and relating stories of similar hurdles and solutions she's offered.

✔ A résumé that speaks specifically to her impact and the strategic change she consistently leads. It doesn't read like a passive job description. Specifics catch eyeballs. 👀

✔ A LinkedIn profile that shares the scope and scale of her roles, so that recruiters understand the level of her work. Being a Director means different things in different industries and companies. Spell out what you do, for how many people, your team size, the annual revenue you contribute to, the budget you manage, etc. Again, specifics - stories - catch eyeballs. 👀
