Why Your Skills and Achievements Can Trump Degrees in the Job Search
I have 2 thoughts on education/degrees and the job search, but to me it's all part of the same philosophy.
I work with many clients who haven't completed an undergrad degree, who are absolutely killing it in their careers, driving innovative change and leading as Directors, VPs, and C-level roles.
If you've got the skills and you've brought the results, you've proven yourself. On your resume, that's all you need. And there's no problem applying for roles that require a degree, because what matters is impact.
I've had many clients secure a top-level role where a degree is required, without a degree. It's all about showing your value.
With that said, I worked in higher education for 12 years. If you have a degree, a graduate degree, a terminal degree, all of that learning is an important part of your experience and should be listed as such on your resume or CV.
You can also feel free to answer interview questions with experiences from your education.
And, if you have a graduate degree, I suggest you list it behind your name on LinkedIn and on your resume. Why? Because you earned it.
Life affords us all kinds of education and it's varied for each of us - just another way that we're different that we should celebrate.
Wherever your education and experience comes from, show your impact and your value on LinkedIn and on your resume and the opportunities will open up.
